Letter Recognition and Letter sound Intervention for First Graders

I am currently a student teacher at a wonderful site and have been put in charge on an intervention group with focus on helping students master letter recognition and letter sounds.

I am to teach a group of 13 students all from varying classrooms. This intervention group is to provide intensive instruction, drilling information into the kids basically.
What techniques can I use to reach all students that is both instructional and fun?

You should have a stack of alphabet cards with a picture on it that is connected to the letter sounds- such as A-apple-/a/, so the students can associate the sound to the letters. These sounds should be connected to your overall literacy curriculum. Ask if your school uses Fundations. If so, just get the manual and follow the program. Why reinvent the wheel?
