Oh yeah - I am kind of new to twitter, so I am still working on figuring out how I can use it. I think it can provide our users with an alternative way to get new updates to the site, giveaways, and get feedback...

I'm pretty new to twitter too, but I'm a facebook pro. Have you considered a facebook page?

I do have a facebook page started today as well: http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Teachers-Corner/134207843344?ref=ts
Not sure what I am doing, but I guess if people become a 'fan' then they will get updates if I post them there as well.

If you post updates to the Teacher's Corner page, those of us that are fans will get them in our news feed.

This will be great!

I am totally signed up for both. I don't even really get what Twitter is and what I am supposed to be following, but I will sit down with some coffee on the beach and think about it.

Face book has been fun to join and has connected me with people I totally wanted to find again. However, I am going hardcore with the privacy settings because students are out there, and they are not allowed to ask to be my friend (that option is gone) or see much. I even removed some of my teacher friends because some of them accepted a friendship request from students, and I don't think that is appropriate. I didn't want my profile linked to their profile.

They are still friends in real life, but not friends via facebook as long as a student or former student is one of their friends. No Way!

Oh, and I totally don't understand the poking thing on face book. So, they poked you. What are they poking me for? Why am I poking back? I don't get it. I got and accepted their friend request. I guess when in real life, your friends "poke" you just for fun. Maybe thats it.

@MsCoffeeLover -
I don't really know what I am doing, but I am beginning to see the uses in communicating easily with friends, family, and businesses/celebrities, etc...

On twitter, I follow CNN breaking news, local news stations, and some celebrities that I find interesting (Adam Corolla, Tom Martino, etc)... It is more-or-less an easy way to communicate short (usually insignificant) news/info quickly.
On twitter I see that I can use it for communicating ideas to my followers. For example, on July 4th I sent a tweet to my followers letting them know of our crosswords and puzzles for the 4th of July. I asked them to 'retweet' if they like the puzzles - this in essence would "spread the word" about The Teacher's Corner to their followers (for each and every person who 'Re-Tweeted' my tweet). In short - a quick way to 'advertise' our resources very quickly. I'm worried though that twitter is TOO easy to inject advertising, and unwanted advertising at that. I think it will soon become saturated with advertising (or tweets that are advertisements) and become almost unusable unless they find a way to stop it.

Facebook is good too - similar to twitter (for advertising purposes), but the 'broadcast' uses a smaller 'net'. It is not quite as easy to send information and have it go viral, but the chances of becoming over-saturated with advertising (on facebook) are less likely. It also has great ways to keep in touch with family, friends and also to network.

I plan to continue to use both to keep in touch with TTC users, but not to over-saturate. I will also probably have giveaways specific to users of these 2 sites - so be sure to follow us (on twitter) or become a fan (on facebook).

The only thing I don't like about this is that I won't be able to remain aynonomous (sp?). Because I sometimes mention things about my center and/or community on this site, I prefer to remain an enigma. I feel more protected this way. I've never broken confidentiality or anything like that, but I just am more comfortable keeping my two identities seperate.

Hey MsCoffeeLover - I do think the poking option on facebook is just meant to be fun, haha.

I've joined the teachers group on facebook - I'm really keen to mingle!
