I am currently an undergraduate student conducting a piece of research based around perceptions on the use of KS2 SATs. Therefore I need participants for my research! I would be extremely grateful for responses back as I need to analyse this information. This will only be done through looking for patterns in responses. Also, please note NO personal details are needed!

The questions are:

1) What are your main feelings towards the use of SATs within year 6?
2) What are your main feelings against the use of SATs within year 6?
3) Do you feel there is a difference between the perceptions of parents and teachers on the use of SATs?
4) If yes, why do you feel this is?
5) What are your views with regards to the effect of pressure in relation to parents, teachers and children?
6)Are SATs useful for providing information for the use of league tables?
7) Overall, do you feel SATs benefit or hinder childrens' development, and why?
8) Do you have any additional information which could be useful for providing your perception on the use of KS2 SATs?

Thank you in advance for your time! This will really help me to complete my dissertation!!!

I'd love to help, but I have a few questions. What is year 6? Is that sixth grade or is it high school? What is the KS2 in front of the SAT. Is this different than the Standarized Apptitude Test?

Oh yes sorry, I forgot this is an international forum! Year six is the year before children start high school. SATs are standard assessment tasks, which are basically formal assessments that all children aged 11 have to do before they can begin high school. They are in Maths, English and Science. KS2 means key stage 2 which is year 3 up until year 6 but the tests are only for year 6 which as I said are eleven year olds.

Hope this helps :)

Oh, I see.

Unfortuantely, students in my area of the country don't have to do anything like this. They just move straight into high school. I'm sorry I can't be of help. I'm sure someone else will be along shortly. Good luck!

If you want to get teachers perceptions you really have to do the leg work and go into a school and ask all teachers not just year 6 since most teachers in the UK will have, and will in time, teach this year group. Posting on this site is too impersonal I suggest you go to your old primary school or one where you may have ties ...I am assuming you are training to be a teacher so your last teaching practice school seems appropriate. Also write out the questionaire if no one can see you they may well fill in your form. Be more proactive go get your teachers don't wait for them to come to you....Good Luck

Thanks for that but I have already tried to get into a number of schools but due to it being research, schools won't let me in because of ethical reasons or because they're too busy. So my supervisor decided the forums would be more suitable as I was running out of time to gather my findings.

Anyway, thankfully I've had more luck on other forums and I've now got all of my data!

I'm so glad that you have success on other forums! I'm sorry we couldn't be more help. Do stick around. Usually, we are much more helpful! I guess we don't have a lot of expertise in this particular area...
