Does anyone have any advice on how to co-teach effectively? This is my first year co-teaching a non-regents course in HS math. I am a Math teacher and my co-teacher is Special Ed.

So far this year we have split the material. I teach a unit, she teaches a unit, and so on. We have very big differences in educational ideals and it is only my name that goes on report cards. Her classroom management is lacking - she doesn't want to be the "bad guy."

I have been toying with the idea of having her pull different kids out each day and work with them in small groups. I don't know how to do this (and of course, have been offered very little training!).

Any advice would be welcome!

I have never co-teached, but if she is special ed, I think I might try your idea. Let her help the struggleing students. Are any of them on an IEP? That could be your basis for the change. I was once told I was "meanest" teacher in the building(lower elem) and I just smiled.
