Hello all,

I am a new member of this forum and have enjoyed posting 3 replies already! I'm so excited!! I have 7 years of teaching experience in grades 2 and 3. My passions are teaching reading/writing and social studies.

Currently, I'm staying home with my new baby girl. While I love being home with her, I miss talking with other teachers and sharing ideas.

I'm sure this forum will help fill that void and keep me in the know!!

Hi, JennA. I can relate -- I quit teaching ten years ago when I had my first child, and it was really, really hard to stay away. I'm still at home, but now that my kids are becoming more independent I am thinking about going back to teaching, which is what brought me here (I'm new on the boards, too -- we can be newbies together!). I'm a middle-school teacher, but I was drawn to the primary grades discussions because my kids are in second and fifth grades.

I look forward to "talking" with you!

Hi Jenna, when I adopted my son, I swore that I would be back in the classroom within six months. Well, that didn't happen, then I adopted my daughter, and in all, it was nine years before I went back. Were there times when I thought I'd loose my mind being a stay-at-home Mom....You Bet...I did some volunteer work with literacy groups just to stay sane. But now, many years later, I don't regret the time I spent at home....it went by so quickly. You can't get those moments back. Enjoy your
baby girl...know that the time to be away from her will come way too quickly.
Other people's children will always be there for you. When I went back to work I went back as a substitute so I had the option to stay home when one of my children was sick.....or if I just wanted a few days off. If you're good at that, you can work when you want.
One of my students ask me "If you could live any one day of your life over, what day would it be?" I have to admit it wouldn't be a "big" day..it would just be a typical day, when my son was 3 years old, and my daughter was newly arrived, and we were just getting through the day. Teaching other people's children wasn't even in the picture.
Good luck.
