So...I'm pregnant.
Does anyone have any tips/suggestions on finding a good long-term sub? I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks so much. :)

No help here, just a question-- why do you have to find your own sub?

Would your school district allow two part time subs? Of course, this will only work if the schedule allows, but some people do part time.
Is there a university nearby? They might be able to assist you with finding someone who is content area appropriate.

CONGRATULATIONS!
I also wonder why you have to find your own sub. The administration is suppose to take care of that. Of course, if you want to make sure someone really good is in your room, you have to ask for that person. Is there a regular sub at your school that would be good? Usually, though, long term subs have to be certified teachers, right? They are very hard to find: here, anyway.
speaking as a long-term sub, I would definitely try to find a way to have people in for you before you go on leave -- perhaps when you have to go to pre-natal appointments, etc? Look at their notes, talk to the other teachers in the hall, get a sense from the kids how things went. that will give you an idea of who you're comfortable with, and when it comes to choosing your sub, they'll have an idea of what they're in for. Also, see if you can get other teachers in your hall to book the people you like best for the job so that you can get a sense of how they handle things in other rooms. It will give you a chance to get to know them a bit.
It does seem odd that you're the one doing the looking. where I am, the person leaving is the LAST to get a say. of course, they have opinions, but the team teachers are the teachers who interview along with admin. since you're looking, though, take whatever opportunity you have to have subs come in for you on a daily basis. If you have someone you like that does daily work, they should be the top of your list for the long-term job.

Why don't you just forget about it and enjoy the birth of your child?
Your students will survive.
