I have been hired to work in another Asian country. I have been hired since June of this year and contract ends after two schoolyears. I feel that I am not happy with the working environment and I am planning to go home for good this coming December. By doing so, I can be sued for breach of contract. There were many other teachers who have done this in the past but as what we have heard, the school published their names in the newspapers in that country and perhaps sued also but the school has never really been able to run after them. My question is this: What can be some of the consequences of my action if ever I pursue not coming back after the term break? I understand that if my documents are not cancelled properly in the country I am working, I will have a problem with immigration and might not be able to come back here. Can the school also report my name to other countries and have me banned there too? This is my greatest fear, that I am not able to get out of my country anymore for fear of this situation. Can anyone help me enlighten on this matter?

Thank you very much.

For an issue this grave, you need to contact a lawyer familiar with the laws in the countries you are living and working in. This is not a question that can be answered on a post given the grave consequences it could have. Don't take anyone's word for it: Find out FOR SURE from a lawyer. AND GET ALL YOUR ANSWERS IN WRITING.

Keep us posted, and good luck.

Hi seastarmath, thank you very much for your reply. You are right, perhaps I should seek assistance from a lawyer.

To my knowledge -- can't you get out of your contract by moving? That's what it's like here...you don't have to stay if you move.
