We are having a huge problem getting two of our parents getting involved in their child's education. Both kids don't complete the assigned work in and out of class and tend to lose focus in class. Both are failing all four core classes and if the trend continues, both will fail for the year.

We have called home, sent letters, and even the progress reports that went home seem to do nothing. My team leader taught the one boy's older sibling and knows the parents aren't involved. My team leader also taught the one boy's mother. She was in special education a number of years ago when she went through middle school, is in bed everyday when her son gets home, and drags him out of state every weekend.

Typically I have success in reaching out to kids in a one on one conversation but I have had no luck with these two. It's so frustrating. :bricks:

What strategies have you found to be somewhat affective in dealing with uninvolved parents like this?:confused2:

I will be following this thread with interest. I haven't much experience teaching yet but in my four years, I have found that parents are ALWAYS the problem when the problem is what you describe.
