Question: Have computers replaced the traditional form of teaching and learning, with the education system within the last decade?

* Please help your view are needed*

I have set up this topic up so i can get an insite on how teachers have been affected by the growth of use of computers in the last decade.

I would be very gratefull if you allow me to understand the change in the learning system and how it has affected or benefited you.

Thank you for your time

No. Yes technology (much broader than computers) are used in the classroom, but they have not replaced other forms of teaching. They are a tool used by qualitified teachers to help students learn. Research shows very clearly that the most important factor affecting student learning is the quality of their teacher. All the technology in the world isn't going to change that :)

In the traditional school setting computers have in no way, shape, or form replaced traditional teaching at a large scale. In a vast majority of schools computers are tools that serve to complement instruction. In some specialized courses, such as a technology education class, I'm sure they have changed things more so than in the big 4.

The only places that computers may have replaced traditional teaching would be virtual schools or some other nontraditional schools.

In some ways, computers have changed the educational system. You can post assignments, grades, discussions, videos, and more online. Students can submit papers and worksheets. They can view lecture notes and PowerPoints.

This is seen mostly at the college level, however. I can see it moving downward into the high school and middle school levels in time. I don't feel it would reach the elementry schools though.

That is a difficult question to answer. I believe that computers have enhanced the way that I teach. I use Power Point to help students visualize the topics we are covering. My students us computers to search the internet for information. I have used web based flashcard programs for review purposes.

In general I believe that computer and technology are only utilized by teachers if they had in depth training and feel comfortable approaching what is new territory for many of them.

No, computers have not replaced the traditional methods of teaching. Computers are certainly a wonderful aid for the classroom teacher. They have certainly made such things are research much easier for the student but the basics of reading, maths and writing stil require a teacher to explain them in the traditional way ,although ,there may be some computer programs available to ehance the teacher's explanation.

no, they have just added MORE to teach -- how to type, word process, data manage, web search, program, and discriminate between valid and invalid web sources. We start all this in PRIMARY. Imagine 25 years ago, when it wasn't a part of school. there might have actually been time for things like cursive writing!

Computers are another tool that teachers can use to help students gain understanding about a particular topic. Teaching requires such a broad range of techniques in the classroom, that it is hard to imagine one particular tool becoming the only way to pass on information.

I do think computers have changed things. With all the projectors, interactive white boards and Elmos, teacher are able to expose their students to much more content. As far as the students themselves are concerned, my Elementary Principal has been pushing technology bigtime. If he comes in our classroom to observe us, he will grade us down if he is not seeing technology used on a regular basis.
