Looking for some input.
I’m trying to create a school storybook as a fundraiser.
I’m thinking each class could write and illustrate a story, we compile it into a storybook, get it printed, and sell it. I think it’s a great idea all around. Creates school spirit, each class can tailor their “book” to the curriculum, and we can raise some money. I’m just looking for some ideas on how to include each student, some ideas on story making, and any general thoughts about it from everyone. I’m very open to ideas and I want the students to really own the book. It’s such an age range so it could prove difficult. Kindergarteners could create simple ABC, shape, or number books, ie. Drawings of things that start with A on the A page? Maybe younger grades could make up the stories and older grades could write it down and illustrate? Maybe do an editor exchange, where classes could pass around their books for friendly critique and editing in other classes?
Any other thoughts or ideas?
Thanks!

those are all awesome ideas! check our Scholastic's Kids are Authors winners to see some samples of what can be done in different age groups.

I would suggest letting each teacher do their own thing as to how to involve kids and get the book done, but maybe you could have an "editorial team" to go through the books when they're done? One suggestion to that point -- have text SEPARATE from pictures, so that if there's a typo or whatever, it's easy to correct without having to re-do the illustration.

Maybe have a theme to the book -- everything has to be set at the school, for e.g.

How will you bind them for sale?

Good tip!
Yes, I have been compiling some rules and regulations, and I was considering setting type separate from drawings, but mostly for legibility. Hadn't considered spelling errors. Will make it an official rule now. Yes, organized an editorial team of students in an older grade with a teacher as the senior editor.
Thanks!
Any other tips in organizing the fundraiser?
