So, the car broke down, meaning I had to ride in with a coworker and I couldn't come in early (I'm usually here by 5:45). Today is the first day without the former teacher, who retired yesterday. They were supposed to hire us an assistant by now -- we hoped before the former teacher retired, so we could train that person -- but the listing only went up on the employment website two days ago. We have a sub assistant coming in today. We don't know who or when or what that person's background is. I have to leave that person and the other assistant alone with the class while I go to an important and confusing IEP meeting. I can't find a regular ed teacher to be at that meeting, although I have been trying for two weeks. My assistant is panicked and very stressed about the day and I'm not sure how to reassure her because my own voice is shaking!
And I actually don't mean for this to come out sounding negative. Those of you who do theater, do you know those nervous can't-believe-you're-doing-this excited butterflies you have before a performance? That's what I have this morning. After a long time of sharing a classroom, I'm flying solo again and I'm ready to jump in and make it work and give it my best performance.
Wish me luck! I might be singing a different tune come 3:00 ...
