Open House

I'm now 49 minutes into Open House and I've had one parent stop by for about 5 minutes. Also, the custodian came by for a chat. Well, to set some mouse traps, but we did chat.

I'm sleepy.

Getting a lot of work done, though. Kinda. I've now been in the building for 12 hours and 34 minutes, and I have another 39 minutes to go before I can leave. ::yawn:: I'm having trouble focusing ...

Correction: Two parents came.

I don't think the second one liked me very much. She kept making references to "the wisdom and experience" of the teacher I'm replacing, and reassuring me that she "understands that it's a difficult job" and that "no one is perfect." :idontknow: I actually thought I was doing a good job ...

:(Oh myOh my gosh. Where do you teach? Tomorrow night I have Back to School Night and I need to have the custodian bring down chairs to my room. Our school prides itself on projecting a positive strong image of taking pride in educating the child and informing the parents/guardians of what is taking place. My biggest problem is there is not enough time to go over the curriculum, expectations, and related programs for the whole school year in just 15 minutes. After that, I am usually cornered by parents who want to introduce themselves and hear something about their child. I am happy to see them and hope they take a sincere interest in their child's education, but by 8:15 p.m., I am tired and want to go home, too. Do you want to trade places?:confused2:

I only have six students, and four out of the six I've had for multiple years. I talk to my parents frequently, not to mention a daily note home for each one (they're all special ed).

Needless to say, I'm surprised any of my parents come to Open House at all. But I usually get about four families. I may even get five this year, with the two new students!

open house is drop in in England, I just had one and 14 parents came we raced through the year but their main concern was, "what is hot seating?" so like the trouper I am I modelled it .....and they loved it ...or me making an idiot of myself dressed in a funny hat and using a funny voice pretending to be Matilda....who thought up this idea they need shooting!!!!!!!!!!! =)

I had about 11 or 12 of my kids' parents come to back to school night.
