I read today that it could be as long as 8-11 years to get a full time contract in my board. I've been working here for 3 years with minimal job security.

here's my question: when faced with a large teacher surplus, how have your districts dealt? We seem to be hiring people from out of board, even though there are about 900 of us in the board who are waiting for full time positions to become available. Apparently, there were 22 contract hires this year. None of them were posted publicly.

So we're hiring out-of-board, still graduating new teachers from the BRAND NEW teachers college within our board, and there just aren't enough jobs!!

What to do as a board?? What to do as a teacher waiting and hoping for a contract?

I don't want to join in on the whining sessions that happen with other people in my position -- they're depressing -- but short of becomign Catholic and fluent in French, I don't see that I have job options!

Sorry, I can't help you with that. Even though we have a stack of applications of hopeful teachers, I would call it a teacher surplus. In KY, you sign a contract every year, after 4 years you get tenure.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, maybe another Canadian poster will have some input. Good Luck!
