Chinese teacher

I am interesting in receiving some useful information.
I have been teaching English in China as an ESL teacher for two years. I am an American and looking to return to the U.S. to start teaching.
My question is this: should I invest in a Masters in Education or should I get a teacher's certificate? I am not sure where in the U.S. I will end up, so I am a little nervous about getting a certificate because I believe that will only make me eligible to teach in that state. Will a Masters in Education give me the freedom to teach anywhere in the United States? Which Masters in Education degree should I get? I am interested in teaching High School history, but I am not sure if that is an easy job to get.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
