Smooth Transitions?

I have 5 grades of students coming to me for science each day. I have 30 minutes with each and they come one right after another. Too much time is wasted until they all get settled in. Does anyone know anything I can do to help with these transitions? :wowee:

I would have a "bellringer" activity for them to do as soon as they enter the room. A question from the previous day or vocabulary term. This should take 3 to 5 minutes, max. If they have something to do as soon as they enter the classroom, they will be ready to learn when you are ready.

Definitely a bellwork activity. I agree with dsmms, it should be siimple and not very time consuming. A simple review question or something.
