Hi! I am a teacher asst and I am trying to get a teachers cert and my masters at the same time. I have an assignment due tomorrow and I need one more teacher to answer these questions. I was hoping someone could help me out. I would really appreciate it. If you could give me a little background about yourself too, that would be good. Thank you soooo much. Thanks again! Debbie
1. How would you define a teacher?
2. What would you expect a teacher to do for students?
3. How do you feel a teacher should treat students?
4. How personal should a teacher get with students? i.e.
just a superior or friends
5. What are you feelings about teachers in general?
6. Do you feel the teachers of today are what you think
they SHOULD be? Basically, the answers from the previous
email, the answers that you wrote, is this how you see the
teachers of today.
def' of teacher: an individual who passes knowlege, skills, and/or wisdom onto another individual.
What I expect a teacher to do for students: encourage self-efficacy -- a sense that "I can do this!" -- for every skill taught through modelling, scaffolding, support, encouragement and praise. build confidence with skills. challenge thinking and guide students to grow in inquiry and expression in whatever subject the teacher teaches as well as in life and the world in general -- encourage a sense of curiosity about everything!
How personal should a teacher get: should always maintain the distance of the person in control. Children have enough friends their own age, and if they don't they need help making some, not a gtrwon-up being their friend. HOWEVER, mentorship is different from friendship -- it is a listening ear, someone to bounce ideas off of, someone to support and give guidance in life and in academic work. I think teachers can step into the role of mentor or life coach, but should not rely on students as friends rely on each other, nor should they encourage students to rely on tehm that way.
Feelings about teachers: depends on the teacher. They have great influence and need to be wise to use it well.
Are teachers what I think they SHOULD be: some are. Some aren't. some will be with some practice.

A teacher is someone who facilitates emotional, cognitive, social, and physical growth. A teacher helps a child learn to love to learn. A teacher supports.
That goes along with my definition of a teacher. A teacher is a faciliator of knowledge of the world and self and of personal growth.
A teacher should follow the Golden Rule with students. Always show respect. Ask for explainations. Guide and be a authoritative not permissive or authoritarian.
A teacher should be friendly and open. A teacher should not share inappropriate personal information with a student. A teacher should always keep interactions developmentally appropriate. A teacher should remember that he/she is a role model first and a friend-type person second.
I think teachers have great passion. I think they are human. I think that they do thier best. I think that sometimes they need help and a new perspective. I think teachers want to do right by thier students. I think teachers are not perfect.
