I am wanting to something special for my child's kindergarten teacher. She hasn't been his teacher for the entire year, but she has made a great difference in his attitude toward school for the few weeks he's been in her class.

I don't know whether to get a gift that is oriented toward her class or if something more personal would be in order. I know that teachers spend a lot of their own money on classroom items, and I considered a gift certificate to an educational supply store. I also know that sometimes it's nice to be recognized as an individual rather than as a member of your profession.

What do you suggest?

You might try a card for Target or Walmart. That way, the teacher can either get something personal for herself or something for the class. Another good place is Borders.

I think it is so nice that you want to give the teacher something. Perhaps you can have your child help you write a note for her. Ask him what he liked about the class. Then, comment on what you liked. This can be put in a picture card with a photo of you and your child on it. I really like hearing what the families liked about my classroom. It helps me continue to do well by letting me know what worked.

I agree, a card that your child helps pick out (and signs) would be great. If you wanted to buy her something, it might be nice to get her something for herself as opposed to her classroom... like a Borders or Starbucks gift certificate. It is wonderful that you want to recognize your son's teacher, she'll love the appreciative gesture!

Oooh... Starbucks is a great idea! Hadn't though of that one.

What I'd really love is a gift card to Krispy Kreme. Well, that and the re-opening of the one in my area. I love the sprinkles doughnuts!
