It would help if you provided more information. What age level are you talking about? Is this a classroom setting?

what kind of problems are you experiencing/expecting to encounter? are you wanting us to brain-storm problems that could arise, then offer solutions, or just straight to the solutions?

Five to ten is a big age range in my book. With fives, you are still working to get the children to understand what numbers represent. Then, you can do addtion and subtration. I think I need a bit more info too. Are you asking about problems the students have or the teachers have? Or indivduals vs. groups? I'd love to help, but that means knowing more.

When working with students in reading/writing (literacy) and mathematics (numeracy) many problems can arise. First, the students will come into your classroom at varying levels (some may know how to read fluently...others may not even know all the alphabet; some can do addition facts...other do not know how to count past 10). Second, you must teach them procedures. What should I be doing while the teacher is working with the other group? How do I ask for help? Where to I turn in my completed assignments? Finally, I believe it is essential to set short-term (daily) goals as well as long term goals so that students stay encouraged and successful.

Okay, thanks for the additional info. :) I'll have to let someone else take in now, since I'm only up to eights.
