What time do you start and end your school day?
Our tardy bell rings at 8:20 for students and they are released at 3:05. Teachers are supposed to be there by 8:00 and can leave at 3:20.

Wow! That's quite a bit shorter than our day. Our students' day is 8:20-3:25 and teachers are required to be at school from 7:45-3:40.

Wow! I feel lucky. Teachers' hours are 8:40 to 3:45, students' are 9:00 to 3:30.
I wonder how our plan times compare. I have 30 minutes a day during gym, plus one hour for art or music and one hour for computers per week.

You all have such long days!
Our starting bell is at 9.20 am - teachers have to be there at least 30 minutes before.
We have a 50 minute lunch break at 11.20-12.10, a 25 minute recess at 1.40-2.05pm and are done and dusted for the day at 3.10. Teacher can leave any time from 3.10 onwards, except for two weeks a year when we take a turn supervising bus lines. The last bus leaves at 4.05pm.

6:00 to 6:00 is typical of most centers.
This year it is 8:15 to 3:30 for students. We are moving into a different district so have to change our times to match the bus schedule, so we will go 8:45 to 3:45. (I HATE that late a start and ending). Teachers are supposed to be at school 30 minutes before and after the students' starting time. Our latchkey program runs form 7:00 to 6:00

Wow! I could do a late morning!!!! I could also do with a longer lunch break. Do you have to sit with your kids during lunch and recess, or are they duty free?
I'm at an elementary school and teachers have to be there at 7:30 and may leave at 3:30 (not that many of us leave then - I hardly ever leave school before 4:30 or 5). Students tardy bell is at 8:05 and they leave at 2:40. Lunch is 30 minutes (not duty free) and recess is 30 minutes (not duty free) except on days when they have PE - then they are not allowed to have recess. We have 45 minutes of planning a day.

OMG, I think I would slit my wrists!!!! The 45 minute plan is nice, but does NOT make up for that, IMO!!

We have to be at school from 8 to 4. Those are the required hours. However, I show up at O dark thirty and leave probably a good ten hours later.
We are lucky. We have two planning periods everyday. They are 45 to 50 minutes long. I am thinking fifty. We are so lucky with the fact that are planning periods are back to back. This year, seventh grade has planning first two periods, so after homeroom, we don't start teaching until around 10:30. That does make for a nice morning.
Next year we will either have planning in the middle of the day or the two last periods at the end of they. Not sure which.
The bell rings at 8:25 am, and we have home room advisory periods until 8:52.
Lunch is roughly thirty minutes, but the kids have to sit down for at least twenty minutes. The way our schedule is this year, one class is split by lunch. That has been nice. We have class for thirty or forty minutes, go to lunch, and return with like twenty minutes left to spare. We don't have recess either.

During lunch and recess the kids are outside playing. There are five teachers at a time on duty around the school - we all do a 20 minute playground duty once a day (either before school or during the breaks). Otherwise that's our time
We also get two hours release time per week.

Wow, looks like I have the earliest start time. The students have to be at school from 7:15 to 2:10 and the teachers have to be at school from 7:00 to 3:00 although most of the teachers get there around 6:45 and stay later than 3:00.
We also get a 50 minute planning period every day and a 50 minute lunch which includes tutoring and course team meetings.
The nice part about starting early is being able to leave at 2:15 for things like doctor's appointments. My administration treats us as professionals and we are allowed to leave early without permission as long as it is not abused.

Students: 8:00-2:55, teachers 7:30-3:30, except Fridays- then we can leave at 3:15. I have 85 minute planning periods everyday...but then I teach junior high. I have 6 class periods to prep for, but the high school teachers only have to teach 4 classes! What a travesty that is!

We have to be there at 7:30. we can't leave until 3:30. we get 24 min for lunch. they argue that it's 30 min from bell to bell (no passing periods) I guess they think walking to and from the cafeteria should be "our time" (yet on our duty days we have to leave 12 min early so all of our 120 high schoolers have time to be served!)
I'm ready to go back to Texas where at least the bus drivers pick up a few more bucks to watch the cafeteria for us.

Ahhh ... but South Dakota has such lovely weather in the winter ... NOT! :)
One things I miss about Texas ... no state income tax.
The school day begins at 8:15 and ends at 3:15 for students. Teachers are generally there by 8:00, although the rule isn't enforced, so some teachers show up at the last minute. Teachers generally stay later, until 4:00 the earliest (that's usually when faculty meetings happen.) Teachers that teach extracurriculars stay very late, especially before a theater production or a big competition. Most teachers stick around instead of bringing work home anyway, so students can come to them to ask questions.
As for planning periods, that depends. We have eight periods, and teachers can either teach three, four, or five periods. We have a block schedule with five periods per day, so we have planning time whenever we have one of the periods we don't teach. As a general rule, theater teachers, coaches, etc. teach three periods during the day, and everyone else teaches either four or five.

I'm originally from South Africa, and the kids also played outside during recess/lunch whilst there were a few teachers on duty and the rest could stay inside and have their lunch and tea in the staff room. The whole school had recess at the same time, whereas here, the recess has to be staggered with only a few classes at a time, and their teacher with them for that whole time. It makes for a long day!

Our school day is from 7:40 to 3:30. We have 2 43-minute prep periods daily, and a 43-minute lunch, althought many of us work some during that period. We are very fortunate with our prep times!

I have to be at school and in my classroom at 7 AM. The students arrive then. We get 25 minutes for lunch. Truthfully, I would not want to have 43 minutes for lunch with this crew I have. Who knows what they would get into in that amount of time?!
