Hello, I am having a lot of difficulty with transfering my out of state certificate. I am from New York state and have certification in Childhood Education 1-6 and Social Studies 7-12. I have applied to the Clark County School district in Las Vegas and now do not know what to do. No one is giving me any guidance. I really want to go to Vegas. My problem is that my file was just completed with the district, meaning administrators can now view it, but the person who interviewed me wanted to know what courses I could teach. I thought I could teach all social studies courses but now do not know. It would be cool if someone else from Nevada had to go through the same experience particularly with NYS certification. Please help me if you can.

You need to talk to someone in the certification office at the Nevada Department of Education.
Here is their website: http://www.nde.state.nv.us/
Their phone number is: (702) 486-6458. You may also e-mail: jcalkins@doe.nv.gov

Sorry I can't be of any help, but I wanted to wish you luck. You sounded a bit frazzled...

Thank you for your help. I will contact the DOE and see where that leads me.

On the bright side, know this ... Clark County is THE fastest growing school district in the United States. Their resource personnel have gotten a reputation for being extremely proactive in recruiting new teachers.
I once read about a district which had budgetary problems. They were reportedly going to initiate mass layoffs. Clark County sent recruiters to this district to hire teachers who were losing their jobs.
As long as you can get your certification problems worked out AND HAVE CURRENT RECOMMENDATIONS, Clark County will probably hire you.
Best wishes!
