Hi!!

I'm not a teacher as you can read in my subject, but I want to become one!
I'm switching careers; I'm working in the computer science field and I'm tired of it. It is not for me!. However, I know that I have a vocation to be an educator.
My plan is to go to school (again) full time and get a Spanish degree with a teacher certification. Right now I'm just a part-time student with a full-time job.
Now... here is the main thing, and I really wish to be able to find somebody who can help me. For my speech class, I need to find somebody who can answer a couple of questions that I have about the career. Nothing long and it can be entirely done by email.
The main purpose of the assigment is:
(1) Teach me more about the career or field I am interested in, especially about the specific communication skills that are needed in that career.
(2) Offer advice about how to succeed in that field.

Some questions may be like these ones:
Why did you decide to enter this profession?
What degree(s) were obtained?
What are your job roles and functions?
What is the expected entry-level salary?
What are the skills/strengths vital to this position?
Describe the work environment.

I will really appreciate your help.

Thanks!

Nancy

Since you want to major in Spanish, I would assume that is the area you would like to teach. My son teaches Spanish. He got multiple offers in a state with few jobs when he graduated. Here is what gave him an advantage:

He minored in French. This qualified him to teach two languages

He spent one year in Spain going to one of their universities, one semester in France and one in Quebec.

One of the things that caught him off guard when he started teaching is that many schools no longer teach grammar as a subject (He went to a parochial school so had a strong background). So he found himself teaching English grammar at times.

Many of the answers to your questions will vary greatly from state to state and even district to district.
