CBS has quoted a recently released report from America's Promise Alliance, chaired by Colin Powell. According to this report, our high school drop out rate is now at a new all time high. Three out of every ten students are dropping out of high school. An astounding seven thousand students drop out every day.

APA says that on average, inner-city high schools have more drop outs than their suburban or rural counterparts. The AVERAGE graduation rate of high school students from inner city schools is only 52% which is well below the national average of 70%.

Colin Powell has referred to our drop out rate as a national security crisis. He contends that in order for our nation to be competitive in a global economy, it is imperative for our students to be well educated.
