Vocabulary Discussion Review

I have decided when I return from spring break, to review vocab before quizzes, my students and I will have discussion time in which they must use their vocab words for the week.

I am thinking right now that the discussion topic can be on anything, as long as they are using said vocabulary.

Any thoughts on this? Has anyone done anything like this before?

I truely believe vocabulary is retained after repeated usage. It sounds like a great idea.

I keep a weekly vocabulary focus on words they would be introduced to during the week. It is on a bulletin board near the front of the class. For writing assignments I tell them to use at least 5 of the words. Words are also reinforced in class discussions, encouranging them to use the new word instead of definition. Once it is personalized, I'm surprised over some of the words the students remember at the end of the year.
