a journal or blog of silly things or cute things that their students have said or done? This first year, things have happened some I didn't laugh about at first.. but later I did and I feel like I should jot them down because it would be nice to look back and read for a chuckle.

I'd totally recommend doing this. It will be a great way to remember, and it can cheer you up on a bad day.

Probably some teachers have done this in the past - created a book later in their career and made a ton of money. Who knows, but I think that it is a good idea:

1. to have "keepsakes" for your memories,

2. to have chuckles from time to time, and

3. to have somethings to share with others.

You might also consider making a classroom book or books with the students. Some classes love doing this. If you teach a series of grades: i.e. math to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders, the children would especially enjoy looking back over past years.

Keep choice cards or notes from students, parents, and supervisors also. It is a good pick-me-up "those" days. This helps keep you grounded in knowing why you ever went into teaching.

I'm so glad I kept a journal in my desk since day one, just as a place to jot down funny, sweet, or insightful things my students have done or said. On days when someone is pulling your hair, it's helpful to look back and remember that she also tried to share her PB&J with you by giving you the top half. :)

I keep a journal of the good times so that I can read them in the middle of the not-so-good times. It has come in handy. Some years I read it more than I write in it, but this year has been great - I could publish my novel.
