Starting mid-year -- 5th grade

I'm a first-year teacher, and I'll be starting my new job in Feb. (5th grade Learning Support) I've heard that the kids are a bit tough...any advice on things to do during the first few weeks---'getting to know you' activities, rules, earning trust/respect, etc.? Thanks in advance! :)
