Have you heard about the lawsuit in South Carolina? The state's poorest school districts, most of which lie along I-95, are not suing for equity with the state's most affluent public schools. They're suing for sufficient funding simply so they can meet AYP.

Photographs submitted to the court have shown schools with leaking roofs, decrepit wooden buildings, unpaved parking lots and makeshift science labs. While affluent neighboring school districts offer $10,000 bonuses to good teachers, the Marion 7 School District can only pay $300.

In recent months, poor districts in Missouri, Nebraska, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Montana and Kansas have filed funding lawsuits.

Judges have sided with plaintiffs in 70% of all cases.
