Hi folks,
I'm a teacher from Norway and I'm trying to get to know the site better, and the best thing to do is probably to place my first post on this forum.
I'm teaching English to a bunch of 12th graders, and we're doing American civilization at the moment. So one obvious theme that is relevant and at the same time has this "right here and now"-factor, is the American Presidential Election. So if there are any of you who have some links or resources to recommend, I would be tremendously grateful. Maybe I''ll also get the opportunity to discuss American politics :D
Take care and have a nice and fully deserved weekend

Welcome, Norse!
My mother was born in Tonsberg, and came to America when she was three. My husband is not Norwegian, but he was smart to marry to marry me!
Here is one resource you might check into:

That site has helped me a lot. It has many things broken down into so many categories and some decent search criteria.
Hope that helps or is remotely close to what you are looking for.

Thanks folks. These pages are packed with great stuff.
So you've got you roots heavily set on Norwegian soil, Bananas? Your husband sounds like a bright fellow then. :) Tonsberg is arguably the oldest town in Scandinavia, even though there are some heated discussions when the patriots dig into it. You've probably been there several times already? Actually the Norwegian immigration to the US is comparatively one of the highest in Europe. Between 1850-1930 approx. 800 000 Norwegians went to the promised land (mainly the Midwest). Of course a fair share of them returned, more or less successful. I've seen an estimation once that showed that the descendants of the Norwegian Americans (If there is such a term?) today, all together, equals the population of Norway today. Hm?, now this is starting to sound like a lecture, and I race off from the topic which I came up with myself (jepp, definitely one of my lectures) so it's best to leave it there. After all, it's weekend. :D

Grandma was always a woman with a mind of her own, and had been engaged a few times before marrying Grandpa. He was a Merchant Marine, and headed for the states to earn money to send for Grandma, Mom, and Aunt M. After about six months, Grandma was too lonely without him, so she sold some stuff, booked passage, and sent word to Grandpa that they were on their way.
Dad offered to take the four of us to Norway for two weeks to celebrate their 25th anniversary, but Mom said why spend the money. Sigh. Maybe someday.
I'd believe that Tonsberg is the oldest. Grandpa lived to be 89, and hubby, a pastor, did Grandma's funeral service on what would have been her 103rd birthday. Quite a lady!
