I don't have any major plans, but I will be going to Las Vegas to see UCLA and BYU. I may possibly go to San Diego as well, but most of the time will be around home relaxing and recharging.
Happy Holidays.

I will be heading "home" to Illinois to spend a week with my family and friends. I can't wait. It will be the 1st time all of the grand children will be together in a long time.

Hmmmm ... as a new chef instructor I need to document my state standards competency checklist for each student. I need to identify what needs to be taught for 2nd semester and create a final exam that can also be used as a pretest. I need to create new student work schedules for our student operated restaurant.
I have food inventories that have to be updated, purchase orders for new tools and equipment that have to be generated, and menus to plan for the coming weeks.
Busy-busy-busy ...

Yikes! No work over the break for me. I will spend it working on my house and training my puppy. What a way to spend the few days off.

I don't really have a choice. I got this job rather late in the summer. I spent 4 days on the road from Pennsylvania to Arizona and literally reported to work the day after I arrived in this state.
On the day I reported to work, I also closed on the purchase of a new house. The movers arrived the day after that and the first day of school was the day after that.
I've been playing catch up since the year began.
For the first couple of months, I was pulling 12 hour days, six days a week. It has only been within the last month that I've felt comfortable enough with my job to actually take a full weekend off ... but even so, there are many things that still need to be done.
The winter break will give me the perfect opportunity to review curriculum, update my competency checklists, and organize my file cabinets.

I know how it feels to be behind. But you can't expect to be perfect from the start. You need time to perfect your classroom. We all need time off and if you don't take it every now and then you find yourself burned out.

I do take time off. I get at least 6 hours of sleep each night and 10-12 hours of sleep on the weekends. :)
Truly though - I have a classic Type A personality.
I was good for 17 years the last time I was in education. If I can do that a second time around, I'll hit retirement ... and besides ... this time I'll have summer vacation.
When I was a younger teacher, I couldn't afford to take a summer vacation. Now that I'm higher on the salary schedule, I don't need to work this summer if I don't want to ... and trust me ... I won't want to. I have too many home projects to work on ... adding a 2nd bathroom and 3rd bedroom, excavating and completing my pond, fencing the yard, adding air-conditioning to the house ...

I've been going so hard for so long that I really really really need to just chill. My best friend is coming in to town tomorrow night, and we're going to kick it for four days. Then christmas at the folks. I plan on going slow in everything.

Well, I'm back. Actually went to Vegas twice, once for the Las Vegas Bowl and again to see Van Halen at the MGM Grand. Luckily there was a paycheck in the mail when I got home, lol.
