Kathy--

I hear ya! Been there, but never had my principal say anything to my face.

Sometimes no matter what you do, there are some people--principals and other supervisors--whom you will never be able to satisfy. You'll be nit-picked to death, or at least you'll feel like it.

You might want to check my other post under "Middle School" for the thread "Altercation with an Aide" to read that story.

In the meantime, take a deep breath. {Breathe, Grasshopper--don't hyperventilate, though!}

You may want to schedule a talk with your principal and ask him WHY he thinks you're a "bad teacher." Have you not followed Board policy somehow?

In my case, I eventually resigned because I just couldn't take it anymore.

And it could be you need to re-evaluate whether you're the "right fit" for your school. You may want to consider:

--transferring to another school, if the district is big enough.
--grit your teeth and deal with it.
--resign and look for something elsewhere.

Just keep repeating to yourself: "This too shall pass." or "One more day, one more day..."

Why did your building administrator tell you that you were a "bad teacher?" What has he done that you consider mean? Could you elaborate?

Many principals are very focused on running the school and the tasks they need to accomplish. Some lose sight of their teachers. I would first decide if this was some kind of fluke incidence. Ignore it if it is. However, if this is recurring. Do ask yourself if you want to stay. If you do want to stay, schedule a time to sit down with the principal. You want his/her full attention. Then discuss where your principal feels you can improve and conferences that would be beneficial to you. The more proactive you can be, the better.

In what way is your principal mean?

What specifics does he give to back up his evaluation of "bad teacher"?

Specifics could help us help you address the problem.

If this is cosistantlt happening to you and other teachers, I would seriously look at getting a job elsewhere. A principal that is like that is usually out to get you. I know I have dealt with one.

Try to figure out what your principal wants, then do it. Figuring out what the principal wants will be the hardest part.

I don't have much in the way of helpful advice, but I feel your pain. You're not the only teacher out there who doesn't get along with the administration in the building.

Good luck. Just remember: You're not trapped in this school. You can always find a new job next year.
