I never realized just how much I appreciated Kindergarten teachers until my introductory geometry lesson in fourth grade. We were looking at shapes and identifying them as simple closed curves, polygons, triangles, quadrilaterals, rectangles, etc. One of my "new to the school this year" students raised his hand - Teacher! What is this shape? He pointed to a square. I led him back to our definitions, and we started down the list. Is it a...? We finally got to triangle.

Is it a triangle? Let's see. A triangle is a polygon with three sides. Does this shape have three sides?

His face brightened, and his finger thumped down on the page to show me - Yes! It has three sides! See! One... two... three...

Sigh. Where was he in Kindergarten??

Ha ha,, you should try to teach my eleventh graders.

Most of them fall in love with calculators since they keep using it for the simplest calculation, and they despise dictionaries for they keep asking 'What? the English Miss?'

The things make me appreciate teachers in general.
Want to trade? ;)

What a wonderful story Florida girl...

Fransisca, I agree with you on calculators. I sometimes would like to throw them out the door!
