One year our principal played along on April fools and all the teachers swaped rooms!
Anybody have a cute song to sing for April Fool's Day? I have songs for every other holiday, but not April Fool's Day.

All of the teachers at our school swap grade levels for the day. You should see the look on their faces when we open the doors in the morning.

I like the idea of switching grades for the day. Fun little tricks like that are fine with me, but I'd stay away from anything that targets students individually or embarrasses them.
I think I'd probably do something silly too, like edible art projects.

For a song, you can try Googling it. Or, feel free to change some of the words to a song you already have. This can streach the uses of songs in amazing ways.

I once taught at an elementary school that did this.
Year after year, nobody wanted to switch with the kindergarten teacher. I thought, how hard can this be and volunteered.
It ... was ... EXHAUSTING ... and I will NEVER do that again!
Why?
The kids have the attention span of a gnat. When it was time to go to PE, half of them got in line while the other half played. By the time I got the other half in line, the first half had gotten bored and wandered off.
I finally reverted to being a 4th grade teacher.
I raised my voice and bellowed, "GET IN LINE! NOW!"
Eighteen pairs of eyes looked at me in shock. Eighteen lips trembled. Eighteen kindergarten children began to cry.
Yikes!

My cat's birthday is April Fool's day...I've had a class I worked in have a party for a cat...it wasn't really a joke, but everyone laughs whenever we talk about the cat birthday party.

I usually forget that it's April Fool's Day until my students begin trying to play jokes on me. I can go along with them for a little while and then try to end the jokes for the rest of the day.
I know that I can be a "sour-puss;" but, for me, two or three jokes are enough! Also, I don't have parties in my classroom. We do enough fun things all year. We don't need the inclusion of a party.

I don't wear shoes that tie or zip or velcro. I don't wear shirts with buttons or zippers, etc.
You could do what my Chemistry teacher once did. She handed back lab reports on April Fool's Day and subtracted fifteen points from whatever the original grade was. Labs were out of thirty-five points, so a student who got a 33/35 got an 18/35 (94% vs. 51%). After she handed them back and everyone panicked, she exclaimed "April Fool's Day!" and reassured us that the original score without the 15 points subtracted was the one that would be going into her grade book.

I could put up March 32 on my bulletin board calendar and insist that it is not April 1. It is still March. I know several of my resource students would believe me in a heartbeat. Hmmm, that requires some thought.
It could stave off some of their attempts as well! :)

I like to play small jokes on the class. I write all the students' names backwards on their desk nametags, bring in small chairs (instead of the big chairs), teach from the other side of the room, come in with a "broken arm", fun stuff like that. Kids love it and remember it for always.

We are reading The Outsiders in my 7th grade LA class. I am having my students create a quiz about the chapters we have read and I am taking it in front of them. It is a creative way for me to assess them on the novel so far and it is proving to be super fun for them to try to trick me, the teacher. =)

Happy April Fool's!! I am on Spring Break so I do not have to worry about the pranks!!
My daughter's b-day is on the 4th and I remember April Fool's the year I had her...I was thinking PLEASE don't be an April Fool's baby.

I think that the nice jokes - like the little chairs - are awesome. No one is being singled out or made fun of. I think doing something silly iwth students is a good idea. It creates a day of humor that everyone enjoys.

I hated April Fool's day when I taught in seventh and eighth grade. I got so sick of the stupid whoopie cushions, the rubber dog poop, the fake blood and the general rowdiness of the day. Not my cup of tea. Now with fifth and sixth grade, it's been alot of fun. These kids are way more mature that those in seventh and eighth. They can have a laugh at a joke or prank and then get over it.
What jokes did your classes play on you for April Fools' Day?
