If you are in need of many pictures for picture communication, you really should have your district or school purchase Boardmaker, for use on your computer. It really is the best program for picture communication and for PECS (picture exchange communication system).

Another option would be simply to do an image search on a search engine like google. Just type in a word and do an image search. If you want a black and white drawing, type in the object name and the word "drawing" or "clip art". All kinds of pictures will come up.

I have to agree with the Boardmaker recommendation. It really is amazing software!

Mayer Johnson has a book you can buy, but all of the Mayer-Johnson pictures are also on Boardmaker. You can use Boardmaker for PECS or on some talkers/assistive communication devices.

Boardmaker is great, but I agree with SLP, doing a google search would work just as good. I have taken a class in assistive technology and have heard that using actual photographs when possible will help the child associate the two better.

While I am a diehard Boardmaker supporter, it's very expensive. There's a website called SetBC that provides free BM pictures online. You can just do a search for it and it comes up.

If you are looking for something cheaper, there's another program called Picture This by Silver Lining Multimedia. It's not nearly as comprehensive or versatile as Boardmaker, but it is a lot more cost-effective. I do like that it uses real photos, and sometimes use it for food items in place of Boardmaker though.
