Hello! My name is Nancy, and I currently teach in the Mississippi Delta. My family and I are moving to McPherson, Kansas in June, and I have been going through quite a difficult process in getting a license there. I have a master's degree in elementary education, four years experience, and I am certified in three other specific subjects in high school. Due to the fact that I took the "alternate route" to get into education, (I have an undergraduate degree in Marketing) I now have to take the Praxis II PLT in order to even be considered for a license. I have passed the Praxis II in order to get my elementary edu. master's degree. I have also passed the Praxis II in English. Does anyone have any advice? I just found out I had to take this test today, and the test is March 3rd. I ordered the study guide to be sent overnight (of course it has not arrived). I know it is half multiple choice and half short answer. Any hints as to what I should study? Should I be worried? HELP!
Sincerely,
Nancy (scared and afraid because if I do not get a job teaching, we will be out of luck...my husband is a full-time nursing student)

Sorry, I have no experience with this test. But, you have a lot going for you:

You have a master's
You have 4 years experience teaching
You have already taken Praxis exams and passed them

The pressure of "needing to pass", the short time line and the move looming over you are enough to make anyone stress out. BUT, I'm sure you'll do just fine, so try to relax. Go over to the ets site and review the "test at a glance" for the PLT you are taking. Your test guide will arrive soon, look it over, take the practice tests and review a few select topics from some textbooks you have on your bookshelf.

You already know most of the stuff on the test because you've studied it and practiced it for years.

Also, it is mostly "common knowledge" in the teaching business, at least I think it is... you will do great!!

Thanks for the tips! I received my book, and it contained quite a bit of information in it. I will have a lot of reading to do. Does anyone out there have any experience with moving to a new state and trying to acquire a license in another state? I received my initial Mississippi license through the "alternate route." The Kansas Department of Education has denied my application for a license until I pass this PRAXIS PLT II test AND provide documentation from the Mississippi Department of Education regarding the requirements I met to receive my "alternate route" license. The lady I spoke with on the phone with the Kansas State Department of Education said my application could still be denied after meeting all of these requirements!! I know I am used to living in an area with a critical need for teachers, but I now fear receiving a license, much less finding a job. Are there any Kansas teachers out there that know of anyone that moved to you area with this situation??? Thanks!
