-What is the daily routine like for someone who does this job?
Wake up at 4:30 am, get to work by 6 am. Get ready for the day by making last minute copies, writing assignments on the board, reading over lesson plans, checking emails, mailing letters to parents, etc until 7:15. Duty from 7:15-8:00. Period 1 from 8-8:50, 2 from 8:55-9:45, 3 from 9:50-10:45, conference and lunch until 12:05, then 4 more periods until 3:40. duty until 4. Finish up until 5 or 6, drive home. (This is on an early day when i don't have parent meetings, school meetings, team meetings, etc.

-What roles and responsibilities are involved?
Make sure students learn without killing themselves, you, or each other. Make sure parents are informed of students progress and behavior. make sure you're doing what your administrator wants you to do, while preparing students for the real world, the next grade, and of course, some huge standardized test they're about to take.

- How many other people does one in this career work with
Alot more than you think. All the other teacher on your grade level at your school, all other teachers of your content in your district, your administrators, the school nurse, counselor, ESL folks, SPED folks, secretaries, parents, students, student's families, lunchroom workers, IT guys, etc.
-What is the pay like
*starting pay
Hahahaha, like $35-$40K if you're lucky.
*pay after 5 years
Not much higher than above

*after 10,25 years

- is on the job training required?
Yes! You learn nothing in school!

-is there opportunity for promotion?
Yes, you can be a team leader, specialist, or administrator.

-is this a career you will be able to do (physically) until retirement?
Hopefully in some form or fashion. I guess if you can physically do the job, you could teach older students. I'm not sure.
is there typically a retirement plan?
Yes. Be sure you pay into it.
