I have used Flat Stanley as part of a cross-curricular unit. After reading the book, we created our own "Flat Selves". We wrote letters to a relative of family friend explaining that we had read the book and wanted to experience "A Day in the Life of ____". (I had sent a note home for parents to think about someone who would be willing to participate in this type of exchange prior.) We mailed our letters to our friends and marked maps of their destinations. Upon receiving our "selves" back, we shared pictures, journals, etc.

The kids loved receiving "themselves" back. Often the receiving party (to our letter) would send back souvenirs of the trip. We received a video, maps, and even some dried salmon from one child's aunt. :)

If you do a search online, you should be able to find plenty of information of other ideas. Good luck and have fun...
