I am new at this.. Just starting to teach in the classroom. I am teaching a lesson on physical changes in matter (from liquid to solid) using ice cream to 4th graders. I don't know how I would explain those concepts to 4th graders--seems rather difficult. How the salt works to change the matter? Need help coming up with good discussion questions!!!! Thanks!! :)

Hello shellmw! Welcome to The Teacher's Corner!!

I did a quick search of our resources, and found this:

http://www.theteacherscorner.net/thematicunits/iceandsnow.htm

There is at least 1 specifically about making ice cream, there are probably more (I don't have time to check all of them, but I wanted to make sure I replied asap.)

Hope this works out for you - please let us know!

Here is a good explanation:
Thermodynamics (http://sci-toys.com/scitoys/scitoys/thermo/ice_cream/ice_cream.html)

Scroll down to the "How does it do that?" section - the explanation of the thermodynamic exchange is put into (I think) pretty simple terms.

Good luck.
