Hi im a 10th grader and i want to be an english teacher. I think i understand the certification process but i understand that your certification expires after about 5 years or less so what do you have to do to update it, and do they let you know waht you have to do or what. I live in louisiana.

The laws vary from state to state. I would google the Louisiana Department of Education and then call or write them.

Each state has individual requirements for both obtaining licensure and maintenance. Some states start you off with a short-term license until you have been employed as a teacher for a certain period of time. After that, you are able to get a longer-term license.

Hello! I am also teaching in Lousiana. I haven't been here 5 years yet. In fact I am in in my third year here and have to take the Praxis if I want to continue teaching in the state. I have also taught in Texas and Oklahoma. According to their rules if you are teaching in the state you just have to sign a renewal form but if you are teaching outside of the state you have to have an application verified by the personnel director that you are teaching in an accredited school and send it in with a fee.
