Need Help!! I need a new plan for managing my sixth grade science classes.

Hi!

I could really use some new ideas for classroom managment. I teach 6th grade Science. I have 6 classes and only have 45 minutes to cram their little minds full of many many many p.a.s.s. objectives.

This is my 8th year and I'm tired of the system I'm using. It requires too much time on my part. I'm looking for something to help motivate my students to bring their supplies and also be quiet and working on a daily question I have on the board each day when class begins. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can reward them for good behavior and is easy for me to keep track of??? This has been a real challenge for me with 6 classes. I would truly appreciate any ideas.

The first thing that comes to mind is in your introduction of the procedure as they enter the classroom. Reading Harry & Rosemary Wong's The First Days of School will give you excellent advice on how to establish those procedures.

What do you currently use? Perhaps there is a way that we can "tweak it" a bit so that you aren't changing everything that you are familiar with.
