Hello, Possible Spammer.

I know. It's a harsh word. You're not selling pills that will enlarge parts of our bodies, and you're not offering us a great deal on a Nigerian inheritance, and you're not trying to lure us into your online casino. So why are you a potential spammer?

Because spam is unsolicited bulk-mail of any sort. If you are searching the web for places teachers might congregate so that you may pitch your (very useful, I'm sure!) product and then move on to another teacher hang-out, re-visiting now and again (if at all) only to update with whatever new product you have, you are a spammer, because that's not what anyone here asked for.

We're striving to establish and nurture community. If you drop in only to tell us about your revolutionary new methods ("Just click the link and you'll be amazed!") without establishing yourself as part of this community, you're kinda like that aunt who arrives on Thanksgiving (late, of course) and stays only long enough to pass out Amway catalogues without getting updates on Cousin Pat's spleen or Uncle Tyler's hernia and without waiting to see if mom is going to burn the biscuits (because she always does!).

In other words, we're not here to be your supermarket bulletin-board. You got something you honestly think will help us out in this very, very, very difficult job? Great! Pull up a chair, tell us where you're from, get to know us, and then tell us what you do. Put a link in your signature line, even. Just don't drive up, toss out your fliers, and drive away. We get enough of that at work: Believe me.

It can definitely be in our interest to know what you're offering. Just offer it in a civilized manner. We might even be intrigued.
